A Big Year

I’m growing slowly.

I’ve just remembered that I’d turned nineteen recently, which meant I had to change my About section on Medium, because I wrote that I wasn’t old enough to drink legally. I am now, but I still want to make clear I have no plans to any time soon.

On another thought, maybe when I’m twenty, or forty, I’ll finally figure out how to change my About section on Medium because admittedly it took me a while.

Nevertheless, I chose to write this piece because who doesn’t write something on their birthday? I’m kidding. It’s not my birthday today, and I was going to write on my birthday, but I wanted to take a day off — after a day of traffic, studies, exams, and a broken hotspot connection that cost me much saved work that I had to redo, and more traffic and stress on the way back.

So much for a day off.

But I think it was the best birthday I’d ever had. Every passing birthday is, because it’s a sign I made it, a sign of growth, and a great time to reflect back on all the amazing things I’d done and been fortunate to do, and the people who were there, and no longer there.

A lot of things have happened since I’d turned eighteen. Sometimes I worry about how old I am, forgetting about how young I am, how lucky I was to start…
